President Trump Hits the Golf Course For the 13th Time

TIME notes this is Trump's thirteenth golf trip during his nine weeks in office.

Twitter Sunday evening rightfully went after Fox News for a unusual tweet that claimed President Donald Trump was spending the "weekend working at the White House". Images on social showed Trump in golf clothes and in a golf cart. But he's played golf in at least 12 of those visits.

Both Trump and his press secretary, Sean Spicer, have knocked former President Barack Obama for his time playing golf on the job. He has done so on 21 of the 66 days he has been in office, according to the Washington Post.

"I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don't think I'd ever see Turnberry again", Trump said in February 2016 during a campaign stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, according to CBS News.

President Donald Trump used to love to criticize then-president Obama for his golf games.

The president's spokesman told reporters that Trump was taking meetings at the club, but declined to say who Trump was meeting with or what topics Trump hoped to discuss.

That said, Obama was and Trump is certainly entitled to play golf, even on a weekly basis. "White House officials have said Mr. Trump goes to his clubs and restaurants because he is comfortable there, but critics increasingly argue that the visits are priceless advertising and that Mr. Trump and his family are using the presidency as a way to enrich themselves". In contrast to Trump, who golfs nearly exclusively at his own properties, appaemtluy causing taxpayer dollars the end his trips to be channeled into his own privately-held company, Obama never golfed at a course that he owns - because he doesn't own any. His visits to that golf course as well as the Trump National Golf Course in Jupiter, Florida, have come during his trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort.
