Phoenix police say they have caught the man responsible for Phoenix-area serial killing.
Police said they investigated whether Saucedo might be the so-called Phoenix freeway shooter believed responsible for nearly 12 incidents, none fatal, on I-10 in 2015.
Police have identified new victims in a series of Phoenix shootings that resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old man.
Aaron Saucedo, 23, was arrested in April and later charged with murder in connection with the first of the killings, which occurred in August 2015, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams told reporters at a news conference.
Williams also said the early-morning New Year's 2016 killing of Jesse Olivas near 2800 N. 58th Drive has been connected to Saucedo.
Nine people were killed and two injured in the shootings, which began in west Phoenix's Maryvale neighborhood.
During Monday's announcement that police had arrested Aaron Saucedo for the 2016 Serial Street Shootings, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams added three shootings to the case. "We hope that our community will rest a little easier and that our officers will get a little more sleep knowing that the wheels of justice are finally in motion", she said. Authorities say Saucedo didn't know the other victims. The Associated Press was unable to reach Saucedo's public defender on Monday. "But my son is not coming back", Castro said. She said he was never a trouble-maker and preferred playing basketball with friends over partying.
Police in Phoenix are frustrated.
Smith was seven months pregnant with the couple's child when Verdugo-Sanchez was fatally shot in front of a home.
"When they showed me the picture, I did get a little chills", he said.
The first shooting happened on March 17, 2016, when a Nissan drove past two teenagers, pulled a U-turn and a man inside the vehicle opened fire, hitting a 16-year-old boy in the arm, abdomen and hip.
Jesse Olivas, 22, was shot dead on the street on January 1, 2016.
Nobody was killed in those shootings, in which about a dozen vehicles on the interstate outside the city were shot between August 29 and September 10.
In the most deadly single attack, two women and a 12-year-old girl were shot to death in front of a home before dawn on June 12, 2016, police said.
