Fox Renews 'New Girl' For Seventh and Final Season

Posted May 15, 2017

With the 2016-2017 TV seasons winding down, network executives have been making tough renewal/cancellation decisions non-stop for the past few weeks now.

The show - starring Deschanel alongside Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone, Jake Johnson, and Lamorne Morris - was just renewed for a seventh and final season by Fox.

Now with an end date predetermined rather than set after the fact, New Girl can end on the narrative that it wants and make sure the creators hit every note that they want to.

In an interview with The Daily Beast back in March, Johnson revealed that he and the rest of the show's cast and crew were prepared for the comedy to end after Season 6, so much so that the finale was written to serve as both a season ender and a potential series finale. "He wrote, "#NewGirl has been picked up for 8 final episodes!

Due to the apparent indecision concerning New Girl's Season 7 renewal, the Season 6 finale of the show was meant to be a somewhat comfortable end-point for longtime viwers. While the plot of the series saw Deschanel's Jess sequestered on jury duty and renting out her space in the loft to the new new girl, the move was actually done to cover Deschanel's real life pregnancy.

Are you excited to see "New Girl" has been renewed?

New Girl is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

Even so, those two million viewers were apparently not enough for Fox to give New Girl any leeway past a final Season 7. Let us know in the comments!
