European Tour Tournament Preview & Tips: 2017 BMW PGA Championship

There are some big names in the field at Wentworth this week but none of them are really jumping off the page for me. This is the first event in Pelley's much-vaunted Rolex Series, the collection of eight events, which will each boast a minimum prize fund of $7million (£5.4million) and in his vision are the start to establishing a viable alternative to the PGA Tour. We've had six straight first-time major winners, and only one semi-dud (2016 Masters) in the bunch.

Rory McIlroy will sit out the European Tour flagship event next week to make sure a recurring rib injury heals. But it seems as if this event is experiencing a bit of a bounce back this time around as most of the top Euros contend for their version of The Players. I think that BMW do a great job.

The condition of the greens also came in for criticism from the likes of Luke Donald and Justin Rose, with two-time victor Donald suggesting in 2015 they needed replacing for the second time in six years.

Just a month prior, he nearly won his first PGA tournament at the Barbasol Championship in Opelika, Alabama, but lost to Aaron Baddeley in a playoff.

"I can't emphasise how big a week it was", the 41-year-old added. He came to the perilous par-3 17th with a two-shot lead, calmly found the middle of the green and two-putted and then he played a solid drive down the centre of the 18th fairway.

The Memorial Tournament (June 1-4): It might be the best non-major, non-playoff, non-Players tournament of the year.

'Anybody who grew up like me watching Europe's great players like Faldo, Woosie and Seve play here wants to feel good about Wentworth. "I've been spoilt through years of having flawless putting surfaces wherever we go and play golf".

"I know he hit a couple of unbelievable shots yesterday to get himself out of trouble, driver off the deck on 14 was a pretty impressive shot". The music does not end at the driving range, it has been confirmed that indie band Kaiser Chiefs will be closing the curtains at the BMW Championship come Sunday evening in the tournament village.

"You have to respect some good golf and that's exactly what he's done", said the Englishman, who played his last seven holes at 2-over. The others are the French Open, Irish Open, Scottish Open, Italian Open, Turkish Airlines Open, Nedbank Challenge and DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
