Samus Returns coming to the 3DS this September — Nintendo announces Metroid

Posted June 14, 2017

Nintendo today made our dreams come true: a new Metroid game is in development!

Both amiibo will be compatible with Metroid: Samus Returns, a re-imagining of Metroid II: Return of Samus, which will be released for Nintendo 3DS on September 15. Compared to the original, Metroid: Samus Returns boasts a whole new atmospheric colour palette and gorgeous 3D visuals.

Two new amiibo figures, Samus Aran and Metroid will be released as a set alongside the game (sold separately). A quick peek at prior series developer Retro Studios' social media accounts offers no indication just yet that the series' co-creators are returning for this one. The game is now in development, and no official details or screenshots or footage were released, but a confirmation is enough.

The last game in the iconic franchise was Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which was released past year for the Nintendo 3DS.

Metroid Prime 4 launches in 2018 exclusively for Nintendo Switch. This new title is called Metroid: Samus Returns, and it goes right down memory lane. While most E3 conferences major focus was on their upcoming video games, Nintendo also introduced new emoji's to accompany some of those announcements. Here, they gave us a little announcement video, letting us know that the sequel, the first in ten years, is actually coming.

Rocket League was also revealed for Nintendo Switch. Will you be picking up a Switch console if you havent already?
